Some viewers of this year's VMAs found themselves put off by Doja Cat, who faced criticism for her controversial antics on the red carpet.
As a quick reminder, MTV's Video Music Awards occur every summer, showcasing the biggest names in pop, rock, hip-hop, and rap as they compete for a prestigious award.
Meanwhile, several top-charting stars have the opportunity to perform live, with Ricky Martin, Tate McCrae, Sabrina Carpenter, Post Malone, Mariah Carey, and Lady Gaga gracing the stage this year.

Also performing one of her hits was 29-year-old Doja Cat, who opened the show alongside Kenny G with her new pop-rap track 'Jealous Type'.
Just moments earlier, the singer was seen on the red carpet wearing an 80s-inspired ensemble.
The 'Kiss Me More' star sported an argyle patterned yellow and purple plunging dress, complemented by elaborate jewels, a Tina Turner-inspired hairstyle, and a bold red lip.

While posing for the cameras, Doja engaged in a stunt where she pulled out a tube of lipstick and reapplied it to her lips.
After several swipes, she smiled and then bit down on the end of the lipstick.
She continued to chew the make-up, which was likely a prop.
However, this moment didn't sit well with many viewers watching from home, leaving some feeling quite uncomfortable.
One X (formerly Twitter) user commented: "She’s a weirdo for no reason."
"No, she didn’t just do that," another exclaimed.

A third person questioned: "Isn't this... unhealthy? Please don't try this at home."
"What did I just see?" another wondered.
"Do you all not remember the 5-minute craft hack videos?" a fifth speculated.
Despite this, many Doja fans took to social media to commend the star for her unique way of grabbing attention, praising her for having 'eaten' - literally.

"Prop lipstick, probably candy she was just pretending to reapply, made for a campy carpet gag though," one fan enthused.
"ICONIC," another simply wrote, while a third commented: "Bringing a bit of performance to the carpet… we’re so back."
A third group of music enthusiasts speculated that Doja's lipstick-chomping moment was a hint at the upcoming release of her new single 'Lipstain,' which was teased on YouTube earlier this year.

"DOES THIS MEAN LIPSTAIN IS COMING SOON??" one queried.
Another predicted: "LIPSTAIN REFERENCE OMGGGGF"
"LIPSTAIN NEXT SINGLE," a third wrote.
